Is Nutrafol Worth the Monthly Cost?
A year of Nutrafol Men runs from $844 to $1,056 at list price. What that buys in evidence, what the same money could cover first, and a way to decide that does not depend on hope.
Nutrafol is worth it only for someone who has already had their hair loss diagnosed, can comfortably afford roughly $70 to $88 a month, and treats it as a six-month test rather than a lifelong habit. At list prices read on nutrafol.com on 22 September 2026, a year of Nutrafol Men costs between $844 and $1,056 depending on the plan, for evidence that amounts to one small company-funded trial in men.

What a year costs, by plan
The direct answer: prepaying six months at a time is the cheapest way to buy it, and buying one month at a time is the dearest.
- One-time purchase: $88 a month, so $1,056 for twelve months.
- Monthly subscription: $79 a month, so $948 for twelve months.
- 3-month subscription: $224 per delivery, so $896 for four deliveries.
- 6-month subscription: $422 per delivery, so $844 for two deliveries.
Twelve months of Nutrafol Men, by plan
Subscriptions, according to Nutrafol, ship free and can be paused or cancelled at any time. A prepaid plan still commits you to the months you have bought, so the cheapest plan is only cheapest if you would have kept going anyway.
What the money buys in evidence
The direct answer: one six-month, placebo-controlled trial of the men's formula, funded by the company, in which more men on the supplement were rated improved.
That trial enrolled 112 men and 85 finished it. It measured blinded investigator ratings, not counted hairs. Two women's trials of related formulas did count hairs and found increases, but they were small, co-authored by a company co-founder and in women, not men. Our full Nutrafol review with its study ledger scores the men's capsule 5 out of 10 on a published rubric; does Nutrafol work walks through every study.
What to spend on first
The direct answer: a diagnosis, because it decides whether any supplement is relevant at all.
A GP or dermatologist appointment, and a blood test if the doctor thinks one is useful, can find thyroid problems, low iron or other causes that no supplement fixes. What that costs depends on your insurance and location, so we do not print a number. Over-the-counter topical minoxidil, an FDA-approved medicine for pattern hair loss, is sold by pharmacies and store brands under its own label. None of these pays this site anything. If after that you still want a supplement, you are buying it as an add-on with your eyes open.
Cheaper supplements: same band, lower bill
The direct answer: Viviscal lists a one-month pack at $40, and it sits in the same evidence band as Nutrafol on our scale.
At that list price, twelve one-month packs of Viviscal cost $480. Its trials, like Nutrafol's, are small and were paid for by its maker, and it contains shellfish and iron, which matter to some readers. Our side-by-side, Viviscal vs Nutrafol, goes through both. Single-ingredient biotin is the other common choice, but on our scale its evidence is weaker, not stronger.
What the subscription includes, and commits you to
The direct answer: on the men's product page, subscriptions come with free shipping and the option to pause or cancel, plus extras the brand bundles in.
When we read the page on 22 September 2026, Nutrafol listed wellness coaching, a hair mineral analysis test and access to a Headspace subscription among its subscription benefits. Those extras may be pleasant, but none of them is evidence that the capsule works, and a hair mineral analysis is not a substitute for blood tests ordered by your own doctor. A prepaid three- or six-month plan lowers the monthly price but is money spent up front, so the flexibility to cancel matters most on the monthly plan.
What stopping costs
The direct answer: nobody knows what happens to any benefit after stopping, because the published trials did not follow people afterwards.
That matters for a product sold on subscription. If a supplement helps only while you take it, its true cost is the monthly price for as long as you want the effect. If you cannot see a difference at six months, stopping costs you nothing you can measure.
Against another premium capsule
The direct answer: Vegamour's GRO+ Advanced supplement is priced close to Nutrafol, and we found no published trial of it.
When we read Vegamour's store on 22 September 2026, GRO+ Advanced was listed at $78 on subscription and $88 as a one-time purchase for a 30-day supply, which puts twelve subscription deliveries at $936. A PubMed search the same day found no trial of a Vegamour product, so on our scale it is ungraded, not "Some". At that price, the question to ask is the same for both brands: what evidence am I buying, and would a doctor visit answer my real question sooner?
A fair six-month test
The direct answer: decide in advance what "working" means, measure it the same way twice, and stop if it has not happened.
- See a doctor first, and tell them what you plan to take.
- Write down the start date and the plan you chose, so you know the real spend.
- Take photos under the same light, from the same angle, with the same hair length, at the start. They are for you only and will not prove anything to anyone else, but they beat memory.
- At six months, the length of the men's trial, compare honestly. If you cannot see a difference, the trial evidence gives you no reason to expect one at twelve.
- Cancel through your account if it has not helped; Nutrafol says subscriptions can be paused or cancelled at any time.
The brand also runs a money-back offer on some subscriptions. When we read the terms they required a multi-month subscription, enrolling in its app and submitting photos; read the current conditions at checkout before counting on it.
Our answer
For most people, the order of spending that makes sense is diagnosis first, proven medicines discussed with a doctor second, and a supplement, if at all, third. If you land on Nutrafol after that, the Nutrafol plans page is linked through our affiliate code; we may earn on a first order, and we would still tell you to cancel at six months if you cannot see a change.
